When disaster struck Haiti this year, the Arlington Diocese's Pontifical Mssion Societies
were quick to respond. After holding a prayer service for victims and support workers
affected by the earthquake, the Societies sent funds to cover immediate as well as long-lasting
needs of the Haitians. Here is a "thank you" we received. We share this with you, the parishioners
of the Arlington Diocese, because it is through your donations
to us that we are able to accomplish such wonderful work in Haiti: "Dear Fr. Pat (Father Patrick Posey is the
Diocesan Director for the Pontifical Mission Societies of the Arlington Diocese),
Your contribution and your deep concern for the victimes of the earthquake in Haiti have

Your wonderful response....

Upcoming Missionary Speakers
Weekend of May 1, 2010 -
St. Leo's Fairfax - Democratic Republic of Congo
Every summer, missionaries are invited to come and speak about their programs to parishes in the Arlington Diocese. Participation for this program is very selective, as our office receives over 500 requests from missionaries each year. Speaking slots are filled by mission groups who have served or who are currently serving the Arlington Diocese, as well as by Bishops from impoverished dioceses selected by the bishop. 2/3 of the parishes receive a missionary speaker to inform them of that particular mission work. Haiti, students began prayer
services, held Masses, prayed the
red beads of the mission rosary
every day, and held various fund
raisers. Students at St. Joseph
School in Herndon, for example,
held a dress down day and raised
$7,135 for the relief of victims.

Father Keith O'Hare listens as Arlington Diocese volunteer Sam Kepler speaks to Theology on Tap participants about experiences in Banica.
Mark 10:17: As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher", he asked, "What must I do to inherit eternal life?"...
Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack", He said. "Go sell everything you have and give
to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
